DeLauro Statement on New Charges Announced in the Murder of George Floyd

Statement

Date: June 3, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement in response to Minnesota prosecutors adding a second-degree murder charge against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, and charging three more former officers with aiding and abetting murder in the death of George Floyd:

"Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has moved swiftly to render justice in the wake of the senseless killing of George Floyd. Today's announcement that three additional officers will be charged with aiding and abetting murder in the death of George Floyd, as well as the increased charge of second-degree man slaughter for Derek Chauvin is a welcomed development in the prosecution of this case. Today's announcement sends a clear message that no one is above the law. But much, much more remains to be done to root out the issues of systemic racism that have plagued our nation. The work of justice must continue."
